Ready Player One is a new twist on life "plugged-in". In the future the world as we know it has changed. In order to escape the dreary and depressing real-life, people connect to a online escape called The Oasis. In the Oasis you can be whoever you want, whatever you want, whenever you want. The entire existence of humanity revolves around an online life that is keeps most people connected at all times.
The creator of The Oasis dies and leaves an easter egg that whoever solves the puzzle will win the rights of the Oasis, essentially running the entire online experience for every user. Driven by the desire, power, prestige, and hope of a better life. With this, as you can imagine, there are some who will stop at nothing to solve the puzzle and that leads to a very dangerous "real life" outside of the Oasis.
This movie makes you think, especially in this day and age with everyone plunged in trying to escape a not so fabulous real life by replacing it with the perfect online experience.
The graphics were amazingly done in a movie based mostly on CGI while trying to keep it real. The acting was spot on and believable, and the message is deep. While the players search for a way to solve the riddles, they are faced with reality vs. virtual life.
I highly recommend watching this movie. Not only for the entertainment value, but also for the questions that you will ask yourself later. Do I depend on virtual life to have a great human experience, or do I depend on life to give that to me? Take life by the horns and unplug once in a while.
Happy Movie Going!
